ED 1CC has now been added to the web side covering the rectangle of Oldham Road, Katherine Street, Old Street and Bentinck Street with the streets inside the area.

A very difficult census to transcribe, the enumerated varied his spellings of numerous words; Lanckshire, Lancashire, Lancs, Lancas, often within the same family and his writing, even for the time was very difficult!

Good Luck.

Two more additions to the census pages this morning.

ED 1aa from the 1851 census of Ashton Town. Most of this is now under the bus station.

Also District NTHF from the 1939 Index. This is the bottom of Oldham Road from the Hop Pole to Bradbury Street including the street behind it.

Good Luck

I have now added Heyrod to the web page. Stalybridge is now complete as far as Lancashire is concerned.

Saturday, 30 January 2021

ED LFVF has now been added to the 1939 Index page for Stalybridge.

This covers Wakefield Road,  one or two streets off it, Cocker Hill and the Town Centre.

Just one ED to do now and that's Heyrod.

Thursday, 28 January 2021

Three updates from the 1939 Index of Stalybridge have been added tp the site:

LFVA which encompassed West Hill, "Lower" Ridge Hill Lane, Cumberland St, Hamilton St and St George St.

LVFE which cover the remainder of Ridge Hill Lane and the Hague and

LFVG which covers Stamford St, Stalybridge Town Centre, the Mount, and Rassbottom and Swanwick Clough.

The latest update is ED1y of the 1851 census of Ashton Under Lyne. Jermyn Street, Tatton Street, Gosford Street are the main areas. Much of this area is now under the current bus station.

Good Luck!

Monday, 18 January 2021

I have spent the last eight weeks re designing the site.

All the Enumerator's books for 1911 have been added to the site, the missing census of Stalybridge ED16 has been added, as has the second half of the Kimmeridge entry on the 1939 Index.

I'll be back to the 1851 Census of Ashton Town shortly.

Monday, 16 November 2020

Four EDs have recently been added to the site: two from 1939, Top Mossley and one from Stalybridge, the first of the Audenshaw 1861 census districts and finally ED 1W from the 1851 census of Ashton Town. Much of this area is now under the precinct.

Good Luck

Thursday, 5 November 2020

Another Audenshaw census has now been added. ED 2gfrom 1851 covering Woodhouses and Cutler Hill.
A long way from modern day Audenshaw, but it completes all of the 1851 census of the district.

Monday, 2 November 2020

Audenshaw is the location of the latest upload with ED NTLA being added to the site. This area covers Guide Lane, Shepley Road and the street off these two main roads.

Saturday, 24 October 2020

The latest upload to the site is the 1939 index of part of Stalybridge. It's ED LFVC and covers the Hague Estate plus part of Ridge Hill Lane.

Monday, 19 October 2020

The latest addition to the site is ED1V from the 1851 census of Ashton Town. Old Street, Wellington Street, Delamere Street and Mill Lane is the rectangle with Booth Street and Wych Street inside the rectangle.

Much of this is now shops. It was mixed business and residential area at that date.

Thursday, 15 October 2020

This morning I have uploaded the 1939 Index for part of Top Mossley.

There are 199 families comprising some 550 people who lived un the rectangle bounded by Hanover St, Mountain St, George St and a small portion of Market St with Argyle St, Curzon St and Lorne St inside the rectangle.

Monday, 12 October 2020

This weekend saw the addition of ED2e from Audenshaw added to the site.

It covers Woodhouses, Crowhill, Lumn and Littlemoss.

Saturday, 10 October 2020

Latest Additions to the Web site are the 1851 census of Ashton Under Lyne, EDs 1t and 1u. Although known to be in poor condition, these were some of the worst censuses I have ever seen and anumber of the entries defeated my research abilities.

If you can add them, by all means let me know.

Also added is ED 2e from Audenshaw. Much of this area is now under Fairfield Reservoirs.

EDs2 to 6 of the 1841 Ashton Census now uploaded

EDs 2 to 6 have now been added to the 1841 census of Ashton page. It's what I'd call the West End these days. plus the new St Petersfield area. All can be viewed from c5d.co.uk/censuspages.php. There's just one ED to go now and that's the area from Ryecroft Square to the town boundary. Hopefully you'll find something that those very faint pages don't let you see. Good Luck Antony

ED 7, 8 & 9 now posted

Three more EDs from 1841 have been uploaded.

They cover the area from Mill Lane to Cock Brook south of but including Stamford Street and North of and including Park Parade and Whitelands. Cock Brook and and Whitelands was a film of very poor quality. I have done my best with this one.

Good Luck

c5d.co.uk/censuspages.php is the starting point as ever

1841 Census of Ashton Under Lyne

Three more EDs of Ashton Town centre have now been uploaded to the web site.

EDs 9 to 11 comprising Currier Lane and the adjoining area, plus the areas between Cavendish Street and Welbeck Street. ED9 was a particularly poor film and so if there are any errors in transcription, I've done my best.

As usual, all are available from c5d.co.uk/censuspages.php

Good Luck
